Directed by Simon Harvey
David Mynne, veteran Cornish actor and a founder member of Kneehigh, in a one-man performance of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.
Originally performed in 2013, Great Expectations was David’s first solo show. A successful UK tour saw excellent reviews and a WILDFIRE Critics’ Choice Award at the Exeter Ignite Festival. The show went on to a highly successful run in Los Angeles in 2018. Most recently - following the government announcement that England’s outdoor theatres could reopen for live performances -Great Expectations was the first show of the new season of events at the Minack, Cornwall, where it ran to six, sellout shows.
1803. Pip, a seven year-old orphan boy, visits his mother’s grave.
A frightening encounter with an escaped convict begins a series of events that will change his life forever.
Written by one of England’s greatest authors, Charles Dickens, Great Expectations is the profound and complex story of Pip’s journey through life.
Some of his most memorable characters – the terrifying Magwitch; Joe Gargery, the kind and generous blacksmith; the eccentric Miss Havisham; the cold and beautiful Estella; Mr Jaggers the pompous lawyer and Pip’s wise friend, Herbert Pocket – are vividly brought to life in this anarchic, comic and joyful telling of this glorious tale.
Using Dickens’ original text (well, mostly!) David Mynne's skilful, one-man performance of this epic story is deft, daft, delightful …and definitely Dickens!
"..his hugely entertaining one-man version of Great Expectations."
Clive Davis: The Times
"This is theatre at its most accessible, at its heart a performance that astounds and delights in equal measure.”
