A collaboration between Jules Feiffer, the Pulitzer-Prize-winning cartoonist and celebrated author, and Tony-nominated composer-lyricist Andrew Lippa, The Main In The Ceiling is an uplifting tale about following your creative passion against all odds.
Andrew Lippa is a composer, lyricist, singer, actor, conductor, and record producer. His “Unbreakable” had its world premiere with The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus in June 2018 with 300 artists on stage, including himself. In May of 2018, he conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a new production of his and Brian Crawley's A Little Princess in concert at the Royal Festival Hall to a sold-out crowd of nearly 3,000 people. His hit song “Evil Like Me” appears in Disney’s Descendants. Written for Kristin Chenoweth, the soundtrack hit #1 on the “Billboard 200” album chart, #1 on the iTunes and Billboard soundtrack charts and “Evil Like Me” was certified gold in 2017. He has conducted celebrated pianist Lang Lang and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of a commissioned symphonic work for piano, soprano, tenor, children’s chorus, and orchestra. His epic oratorio for men’s chorus, orchestra and soloists, has seen over 30 productions including Disney Hall and Lincoln Center. Lippa’s newest musical, The Man in the Ceiling, based on Jules Feiffer’s book (and co-written with Feiffer) released a world premiere studio album in May of 2019. His obsession with Netflix’s Tiger King yielded two songs/videos in April, 2020 and, for a while, got his mind off the pandemic.
Broadway credits include: music and lyrics for Big Fish; the Tony®-nominated music and lyrics for the Broadway musical The Addams Family directed by Jerry Zaks, as well as the music for Aaron Sorkin’s Broadway play The Farnsworth Invention directed by Des McAnuff. Other musicals include the Drama Desk award-winning musical The Wild Party (book/music/lyrics); John & Jen (music/book); Asphalt Beach (music and lyrics); Life of the Party (a compendium of Lippa’s works/Menier Chocolate Factory); and You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown (additional music/lyrics and arrangements).

Jules Feiffer has won a number of prizes for his cartoons, plays, and screenplays, including the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning. His books for children include The Man in the Ceiling, A Barrel of Laughs, A Vale of Tears, I Lost My Bear, Bark, George, and Meanwhile…
Feiffer’s first collection of cartoons, Sick, Sick, Sick (1958), was followed by Passionella, and Other Stories (1959). Passionella contains the character Munro, a four-year-old boy who was drafted into the army by mistake. Munro became the basis of an animated cartoon that received an Academy Award in 1961. Later cartoon collections included Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl (1961); Feiffer’s Album (1963); The Unexpurgated Memoirs of Bernard Mergendeiler (1965); a retrospective, Jules Feiffer’s America: From Eisenhower to Reagan (1982); Marriage Is an Invasion of Privacy (1984); and Feiffer’s Children (1986).
Feiffer also wrote satirical revues, such as The Explainers (1961) and Hold Me! (1962), and a one-act play, Crawling Arnold (1961). His full-length plays—Little Murders (1967), The White House Murder Case(1970), and Grown Ups (1981)—like his cartoons, blend farce and biting social criticism. Other literary efforts included the novels Harry, the Rat with Women (1963) and Ackroyd (1977); The Great Comic Book Heroes (1965), which he edited and annotated; and several screenplays, among them Carnal Knowledge (1971), which was directed by Mike Nichols. In addition to illustrating the popular The Phantom Tollbooth (1961), written by Norton Juster, he wrote I Lost My Bear (1998), Bark, George(1999), The House Across the Street (2002), and A Room with a Zoo (2005). His memoir, Backing into Forward, was published in 2010.

Annabel Mutale Reed is a musical theatre director and writer, she is committed to creating musical theatre that representative of the global majority.
She has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, from Oxford University. She was awarded a full Departmental Scholarship for her masters in Musical Theatre Writing (MFA) at New York University (Tisch), where she also won the Mame Duncan Prize (2018) and an additional emerging artist award from The Mackintosh Foundation.

Musical Director and Keyboard
Perhaps best known for his bold rearrangements, Sam is a musical director, arranger and composer currently studying on the postgraduate Music Direction course at the Royal Academy of Music. Upon finishing secondary school, he joined the teaching staff at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and has worked extensively in musical theatre since, performing in venues such as Cadogan Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Sam is thrilled to be working on The Man in the Ceiling with such an incredible cast and creative team.

RICHARD BEADLE Musical Supervisor Richard is currently Musical Director of Hamilton, the multi-Olivier award winning musical currently running at the Victoria Palace Theatre, London. Richard he recently composed the score for the RTS award-winning BBC documentary 'The Choir, Our School by the Tower', dealing with the effects on the staff and pupils at Kensington Aldridge Academy, in the shadow of Grenfell Tower. He recently composed the theme tune to the BBC show, Gareth Malone's All Star Music Quiz as well as serving as the on-screen Musical Director with his live band. Richard is a professional songwriter, orchestrator, composer and conductor of television and production music. He has also served as Musical Supervisor and Musical Director on many successful West End and international musicals. He was Musical Associate for series 1 of the ITV drama, Victoria. He was an arranger and vocal coach for the prime time BBC TV show, Pitch Battle. Richard arranged and orchestrated (and served as MD) Calendar Girls, a musical in collaboration with Gary Barlow and writer Tim Firth based on the acclaimed film at London's Phoenix Theatre in January 2017. Richard's arrangements and orchestrations can be heard on Calendar Girls Original Cast Recording. He was the orchestrator and Musical Supervisor for the UK tour of The Addams Family written by Andrew Lippa. He was the original Musical Director for West End shows including Priscilla Queen Of The Desert (Palace Theatre), Cameron Macintosh’s Betty Blue Eyes (Novello Theatre) and Hair! (Gielgud Theatre) and The Bodyguard (Adelphi Theatre); Grease (Piccadilly Theatre). He is currently Musical Supervisor for The Bodyguard worldwide. He is MD and pianist on the The Bodyguard and Betty Blue Eyes Original Cast Recordings. Richard was the Chairperson for the UK Jury for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. His production music can be heard on TV adverts and social media platforms. He can be found working out of his London recording studio and collaborating with leading singers and songwriters. He has most recently worked with (Grammy & Tony award winner) Heather Headley, (MOBO award winner) Beverley Knight, (MOBO award winner) Alexandra Burke, Gary Barlow, Tony Hadley, Jason Donovan, Jimmy Osmond, Duncan James, Gareth Malone, Kelis, Jermaine Jackson and many more. Richard was also the arranger for the a cappella group, Band Of Voices who reached the semi finals on Britain’s Got Talent, achieving success on the show and currently more than 7 million YouTube views
Originally from Ireland, Jack moved to London to study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, from where he graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Musical Theatre.
During his final year at college, Jack was offered the opportunity to originate the lead role in the new musical The Sins of Jack Saul, for which he received a BroadwayWorldUK Award nomination for Best Actor in a New Production of a Musical. Since then Jack has appeared as Val LaMar in Babes in Arms and Billy Crocker in Anything Goes, for which he received an Off West End Award nomination for Best Male Performance in a Musical. Jack has also had the honour of originating a role which was written for him; playing Mr.Connolly in The Railway Children at Cadogan Hall, having previously appeared in a workshop of the show at the Guildford Summer Chamber Music Festival. Most recently Jack appeared as Bill Calhoun in a co-production of Kiss Me, Kate by the Lyric Theatre, Belfast and Northern Ireland Opera. This was the role which led to his nomination for the Evening Standard Future Theatre Fund.
Jack has been heavily involved in the development of new Musical Theatre both as a performer and as a creative. He has sung the leading roles of Aiden and Doug on a recording of the new musical The Cereal Killer Cafe and has been cast in leading roles in workshops of Out in the Army and Bromance: The Dudesical. As an Associate Director, he has worked on the The Choir of Man and 57th National Mathlete Sum-It.
Beyond Musical Theatre, Jack has worked across Opera, Plays and Television. He made his professional operatic debut in a production of The Homosexual Necrophiliac Duck Opera at The Natural History Museum and as Associate Director on a streamed production of Terrence Rattigan’s All On Her Own, as well as Song For Nature for Sky Arts.
During his time at Trinity Laban Jack was a Leverhulme Arts Scholar and he would like to take this opportunity to thank the Leverhulme Trust for their support during his training.
